I called the manufacturer to check on the overall dimensions needed to fully extend the Brophy Camper Scissor 4 Steps, Item # SS04. They said the Brophy steps need approximately 32 inches of vertical space from top step to bottom step to fully extend. When fully expanding the steps, the height will expand from 31 inches to 40 inches depending on your need.

The base bracket profile measures 24 inches long, 1 inch tall, and 1 inch deep. The shorter tabs that will be closer against the trailer/RV extend the bracket by just 3/8 of an inch, giving it an overall height of 1-3/8 inches. The problem is that the overall measurement at 27-5/8 inches is from the end of the rod that extends out on both sides. The 26-1/8 inches is the dimension of the mounting brackets at the top of the steps.

That is a good question, and you can leave your current fold-out steps up and in the folded position when installing the mounting bracket of the Brophy Scissor Steps. The reason is, the bracket will be installed just underneath the door so as long as when your steps are folded up there is no interference in that area the Brophy steps will be a great option. I have a solution for you, but as far as porch style trailer steps go, the Econo Porch Trailer Step with Handrail # EHS-103-R is going to be the tallest step we have available.
I recommend going with the TorkLift GlowStep Revolution # TLA9005 . These steps can be used for entries 34-7/8" to 42-3/8" and the steps have a rise/drop of 7-1/2" which is going to keep you from having to step up too high/too far down at any point.
